World-in-Motion
Physics Video Analysis Software
|
|
Version
4.0 for Windows |
|
- View digitized video clips of real world physical events on your computer screen for frame by frame motion
analysis.
- Collect Position-time data on screen, then use the software’s powerful analysis features to study velocity, acceleration, force, energy, momentum . . .
|
|
- Virtually any mechanics event which can be captured with a camcorder can be brought into the software for analysis: one-dimensional, two-dimensional, circular, oscillatory, and rotational
motion.
- CD-ROM package comes complete with analysis software, instructional guide, and over 200 digitized video clips ready for analysis.
|
| 1. Shoot and digitize video |
|
Using your own video camcorder, shoot the physical event which is to be analyzed. Digitizing the video to your computer’s hard drive is accomplished through a video capture board.
(We recommend the Winnov Videum video capture board, available at
www.winnov.com) If you don’t wish to purchase a video capture board, choose from over 200 digitized clips ready for analysis provided on the
World-in-Motion CD-ROM.
|
| 2. Gather data in World-in-Motion’s video window |
Point and click with a mouse to mark object(s) position over a range of frames.
x-y scale is established by clicking on two points in the video window and entering the corresponding physical distance.
Position and time data from the on-screen video event are displayed. The x-y origin may be placed anywhere in the video window.
Clicking the Graphs button initiates graphical analysis.
|
|
 |
| 3. Use World-in-Motion’s graphical analysis features |
Velocity vs time graphical analysis of a projected hammer’s center of mass.

V, Vx, Vy plotted together allowing comparisons to be made. Selecting two points on a line using a mouse draws a best fit curve for which the slope is determined. Area under the graph can be automatically determined as well.
|
|
Energy vs time graphical analysis for projected hammer.

Potential, Kinetic, and Total Energy plotted together showing the conservation of energy. A reference video window correlates the object’s position to the specific point on the graph. |
Versatile Lab Software
World-in-Motion computer software for Windows is a motion analysis tool which utilizes the powerful technology of digital video. Using a video camcorder as a data gathering tool, motion events which take place in the classroom or half-way around the world can be brought up on the computer screen for detailed study. Start with events in the classroom by analyzing falling bodies, projectiles, pendulums, masses swung around in a circle, objects rolling down inclines, mass-spring systems, air track collisions, etc. – then move outdoors to analyze events on the track, tennis court, or ball field. The software’s extensive features can perform motion analysis on virtually any motion event which occurs in a two-dimensional plane.
After having gathered data in World-in-Motion’s video window, the following quantities may be graphically analyzed: |
|
|
• Position
• Velocity
• Acceleration
• Force
• Momentum
• Energy
|
• Angular Position
• Angular Velocity
• Angular Acceleration
• Angular Momentum
• Torque |
| Features: |
